Skills Certified are very proud to announce the appointment of our new ambassador – NRL superstar Matty Johns. As our new spokesperson, Matty’s new role with Skills Certified holds huge promise, and we believe his memorable career will complement the drive of the Skills Certified perfectly. We’ve included a little bit of background about Matty to demonstrate why we think he’s the perfect match for us at Skills Certified.

A successful sporting career

Matty John’s professional sporting career began with his signing with the Newcastle Knights in 1991 playing five-eighth. With the Knights, Matty went on to claim a victory in the 1997 Australian Rugby League grand final over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Success continued to follow him through his rugby career – Johns played 8 matches with the Australian team participating in the Rugby League World Cup, taking home the title with the Australian squad in 1995. Johns was also selected for the Australian team to compete in 1999 Rugby League Tri-Nations tournament, where in the final the Kangaroos’ scored a 22-20 victory against New Zealand. Matty’s sporting career came to a close at the end of the 2002 after playing a season with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, after which he retired. His career was far from over, though.

Continuing to entertain sports fans

Not long after retirement from professional rugby league, Matty signed deals with the Nine Network and Sony Music Entertainment. Many will recognise Matty Johns from his various spots on television discussing ruby league. In addition to being featured from 2002 on regular stints on The Footy Show, he is currently co-host on the Triple M Sydney breakfast show The Grill Team and currently appearing twice a week on Foxtel with his own show called “The Matty Johns show”
