Moving to Australia to work can be a stressful process, particularly when it comes to finding work. If you have moved to Australia, or if you plan on moving to Australia at a later date, it may surprise you to learn that your previous experience can be highly useful for job prospects in Australia. Prior knowledge, experience, and hands-on skills can aid prospective applicants in getting recognised for previous industry roles – this is called Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL.

What is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a way to ensure individuals are granted nationally recognised qualifications in Australia. Depending on their demonstrated skills, understanding and experience in their field, they may receive all or part of a qualification. Experience may not necessarily involve formal education, but can include significant hands-on practical work that has seen you become skilled in your particular field. When we’ve established your experience through your portfolio, Skills Certified can then employ our extensive partner network of registered training organisations (RTOs) to turn your overseas qualifications and experience into a nationally recognised Australian qualification.

How does it help those who have previously worked overseas?

Because many migrants that relocate to Australia are already skilled, it is a great idea to be able to be able to effectively utilise these skills when possible. For those with highly transferable skills, further education and training is not necessarily required. Even if you have an overseas qualification that is not recognised in Australia, Skills Certified are able to help you turn your overseas qualification into a nationally recognised Australian qualification. We achieve this by providing a range of quick and easy RPL gap training programs to fill in the gaps that you might otherwise lack for the requirements of Australian qualifications.

Ready to get qualified?

If you have already made the move to Australia, or if you’re currently planning on moving, make sure to consider Recognition of Prior Learning to help make the most of your experience. In this way, you won’t have to go through the very time consuming and expensive process of re-learning skills you are already very capable of. Skills Certified also offer a free 60 second skill check to get you on track for your recognition as fast as possible – after demonstrating your experience and providing your evidence, you’ll be well on the way to achieving your relevant qualification!
