Simply stating what your experience is on an application is certainly the easiest way to go about it when you’re applying for many roles at once, but this generic approach does applicants no favours.
It’s always worth taking a little bit of time to show prospective employers how your past experience might benefit a specific aspect of the role you’re applying for. If necessary, use some of the same phrases and words they used in their job ad to tie it all together.
Sometimes it’s about more than experience
While experience is extremely be important, so is your first impression.All of the experience in the world won’t save an application that is packed with spelling and punctuation errors.
If you’re taking all that time to put your trade application together, taking a few extra minutes to proof your application and ensure there are no obvious mistakes can perfectly demonstrate another key skill: attention to detail.
Believe in your abilities
Like any CV in a trade application you have to sell yourself. This can be daunting, but remember that no one knows you and your abilities better than yourself. So, show this off.
We understand how hard it can be to talk yourself up, but you need to be able to set yourself apart from other applicants. Offer any relevant facts that show you’re capable to practically handle yourself on the job, and draw on experiences from past work, training courses and study that can help round out your application.
Don’t just leave it – Follow up
Getting an interview is a great sign that you might be a good fit for the job, but don’t just wait around in the days following the interview. Following up afterwards can show that you’re enthusiastic and it can also help them remember you better in the longterm – both important factors for landing competitive roles.
